It is great to see such an institute in Egypt (the Andalus)committed to a noble ideal and undertaking this study. I hope Egyptian journalists and Editors take this to heart and lift their industry to respectable levels and be of real service to their country.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32124211.post-1156255555777345742006-08-22T07:05:00.000-07:002006-08-22T07:05:00.000-07:00Thanks dear Bilo for the comment.I am sorry dear a...Thanks dear Bilo for the comment.

I am sorry dear anonymous for the delay in responsding. I wanted to check the dates and information you asked for before I posted them.

The time you gave is about right. As documented in Baha’i history, this verse was revealed by Baha’u’llah in Akka, Palestine at the time, between 1874 – 1892.

I believe Al-Ahram newspaper was
founded in Egypt on August 5, 1876 and is the first newspaper in the Arab World.
http://www.allied-media.com/Arab-American/alahram.htm

Regarding your question, Is it possible to be an objective journalist?

One of the reasons that God sends us all these messengers with all sorts of spiritual teachings, laws, ordinances and counsels is so we can apply them in our daily actions in order to make the world a better place.

Baha’u’llah Stated:

“O Son of Spirit! The best beloved of all things in My sight is Justice; turn not away therefrom if thou desirest Me, and neglect it not that I may confide in thee. By its aid thou shalt see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others, and shalt know of thine own knowledge and not through the knowledge of thy neighbour. Ponder this in thy heart; how it behoveth thee to be. Verily justice is My gift to thee and the sign of My loving-kindness. Set it then before thine eyes.”

He also Stated:

“Bring thyself to account each day ere thou art summoned to a reckoning; for death, unheralded, shall come upon thee and thou shalt be called to give account for thy deeds.”

In the above, we are told to investigate the truth and see and know things with our own effort and investigation of the truth. He also tells us that we are accountable for every thing we do. We are also told to be truthful, sincere, honest and to have a pure motive and be endowed with the spirit of servitude, etc. etc.

We believe that to do our job ethically and objectively we need to put all of these ingredients together. And if we have a pure motive and do our duty in a spirit of service and put our best effort into things, then we have done everything we can to be objective.
And as it is said: "God will not burden any soul beyond its capacity."

I hope this answers your questions.Nesreen Akhtarkhavarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13800403091039130239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32124211.post-1156210128164552032006-08-21T18:28:00.000-07:002006-08-21T18:28:00.000-07:00However, there were many things written back then ...However, there were many things written back then that came to fruition many years later. Here is an example of writings from the 1940s:

"A mechanism of world inter-communication will be devised, embracing the whole planet, freed from national hindrances and restrictions, and functioning with marvellous swiftness and perfect regularity."
Shoghi Effendi, The World Order of Baha'u'llah, p. 203

Does that remind you with something? :-)Bilohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08060802520953738221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32124211.post-1156120728776160092006-08-20T17:38:00.000-07:002006-08-20T17:38:00.000-07:00From what little I have read about the history of ...From what little I have read about the history of Bahai, I am guessing that the statement you quote at the end of the article was made in the 1880s .. is that about the right time? Were there newspapers in the Middle East already then? Good advice about objectivity. That's what journalist strive for today (as taught in the universities anyway) , but..
I wonder if it's possible to be an objective journalist all the time. I hope they try.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
